San Antonio City Facts
The San Antonio Mud Festival is held the first Saturday of January. The festival involves draining the Riverwalk canal, lugging out all the garbage, fixing the pumps and refilling the Riverwalk with water. There is live music, dancing and food in conjunction with the event.
The only professional sports team to reside in San Antonio are the NBA team the San Antonio Spurs.
The early Payaya Indians of the area called this area Yanaguana which means The Clear Water. Spanish explorers in 1691 discovered the Payaya Indian camp on a gentle river and named the site San Antonio.
